When a couple of professional guys moved from the United States to live and work in London three years ago, they discovered that good, wholesome, home-made cupcakes, sweet pies and fresh tarts were hard to come by.
Outsiders they were, but they identified a gap in the cake market and set about creating a new culinary enterprise devoted to all things sugary and sweet.
From a fresh Lemon Poppy cupcake to a subtle and exotic Persimmon Spice, business and life partners David Lesniak and David Muniz are spearheading a revival of the humble home-made cupcake - and putting tasty, wholesome cakes back on the teatime pedestal where they belong.
Starting out as home bakers for friends and fellow office workers, the two Davids saw an opportunity to turn their friendly service into a business.
They now supply a range of cupcakes, pies and tarts (available to order from their website) at various farmers markets and also hold regular masterclasses at the Chiswick-based bakery, Outsider Tart.
To make their cupcakes extra special and authentic, they use ingredients that are rarely sought out in the UK such as sorghum, a type of molasses from the Deep South of Mississippi that has rich flavour.
Watch out for appearances from the Outsider Tart team during National Cupcake Week 13 - 19 September, on Sky 262/263 and Freesat 405/406
