Ingredients

  • 250g rasher bacon, minced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 tbsp. minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp. freshly minced ginger or 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 2 (500g) tins kidney beans, undrained
  • 1 (500g) tin pinto beans, undrained
  • 1 (500g) tin black beans, undrained
  • 300g barbeque sauce
  • 75g treacle
  • 100g granulated brown sugar
  • 1 bottle beer
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

How to make Baked beans

1) In a large saute pan, cook rasher bacon over medium-low heat for 5 to 7 minutes. Add onions, garlic, ginger, and peppers and cook until soft. add dry mustard and stir for 1 to 2 minutes. add the beans, BBQ sauce, treacle, brown granulated sugar, and beans. Stir and simmer on stove for 2 hours (or bake at 180C/Gas Mark 4. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, and serve.
