Ingredients
- 1 1/4 L oil, for frying
- 2 tsps house seasoning, recipe follows
- 1kg fresh okra, Technique: Slicing Cutting a larger piece of food into even pieces or strips. I know this Teach me, please sliced 1.25-cm thick
- House Seasoning:
- 110g cornmeal
- 225g salt
- 225g all-purpose flour
- 56g black pepper
- 56g garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 110ml buttermilk
Method
How to make Fried okra
1) Heat oil in a large, heavy-bottomed skillet to 176 degrees C. (You may not need to use this much oil; do not fill the pan more than halfway up the sides with oil.)
2) In a medium bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, house seasoning, and cayenne pepper. Dip okra in buttermilk and then dredge in cornmeal-flour mixture to coat well. Carefully add okra to the hot oil, in batches as needed, and cook until golden brown. Remove from oil, drain on paper towels, and then serve immediately.
