Add the maple syrup and fig preserve into your serving glasses. Add a small amount of the whiskey, the chocolate and orange bitters and one ice cube. Slowly start stirring the mixture with the flat end of bar spoon.
Slowly dilute the whiskey with the ice by adding small amounts of whiskey each time. You want to just dilute the alcohol just enough until the drink tastes smooth.
This should use about 3 ice cubes.
Top up the glass with ice and serve with a slice of grapefruit zest and a few sprays of chocolate bitters.
