Natural dyes for Easter eggs
Ingredients
- Red: 900g beetroot, peeled, diced
- Yellow/tan: 450g onion skins
- Yellow/orange: 55g tub turmeric
- Purple: 2 small heads red cabbage, sliced
- Warm brown: 1 (1.4L) pot of strong coffee
- Distilled white vinegar
Method
How to make Natural dyes for Easter eggs
1) For all but the coffee colour, in a 5L saucepan add 1 vegetable or ingredient. Add 3.8L water, bring to a boil and cook for 1/2 hr or until the colour is very dark. Allow to cool to room temperature and strain out vegetables. Add 60ml distilled white vinegar, add hard boiled eggs, refrigerate overnight.
